Research Project:

Synthesis and Biological Applications of Inorganic Polyphosphates

Inorganic polyphosphate (polyP), a polymer composed of multiple orthophosphates linked by phosphoanhydride bonds, is found in all living organisms.1 Different functions of polyP have been reported in literature2 whereas the search for most enzymes involved in mammalian polyP metabolism continuous.3 To further investigate its biological role and metabolism, a library of polyP chemical biology tools with different functionalities is being synthesized. The project is embedded in a collaboration with Dr. Rashna Bhandari (CDFD, Hyderabad, India) and Manish Jaiswal (TIFR, Hyderabad, India).
